Fleet fitted with fuel-saving technology to save Gloucestershire business thousands: Protrack Solutions signs contract with EG Carter & Co
A major deal has been struck between two Gloucester companies to improve the efficiency of 100 vehicles.
Protrack Solutions has signed a contract with EG Carter & Co to install tracking device software into vans across depots in Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Oxford and in Wales.
The telematics system ensures the fleet is operating at its most efficient. The devices will be in place for three years when new ones could then be installed.
Kevin Pope, a consultant in telematics at Protrack Solutions, based on Westgate Retail Park, said the device could save businesses that run a fleet of vehicles “thousands if not tens of thousands of pounds each year”.
He said: “We gave EG Carter & Co two units to try last year. At the beginning of March this year they said they were ready and originally wanted 90.
“That changed to 100. We have already fitted vehicles at their Welsh depot and are in the process of fitting the Gloucester ones.
“Tewkesbury and Oxford vehicles are also being fitted. Our engineers go out and fit vehicles wherever they are.”
David Carter, purchasing manager at EG Carter & Co, which is based in Lower Tuffley Lane, said: “With more than 100 commercial vehicles operating throughout the south and west of the country, EG Carter & Co finally took the decision to install a telematics system to ensure the fleet of vehicles are operating at their most efficient.
“The data provided by the system will enable significant savings to be targeted and made through fuel efficiency alone but will also provide information to help us demonstrate our duty of care to other road users and the environment.”
Kevin’s father worked at EG Carter & Co for more than 40 years and his nephew has worked there for more than 10 years.
